Criteria & Procedures Must be a student of Asian American heritage (at least 25%), and must be a current high school senior at Roosevelt, Cleveland or Franklin High School in the Seattle School District. The Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 G.P.A and be able to demonstrate financial need. The Applicant must be attending or prepared to attend a 2 or 4 year public or private university, at the graduate or undergraduate level, in the United States.

Criteria & Procedures Available to African American high school or undergraduate student residing in King or Snohomish counties in Washington or Tipton, County in Tennessee. Must be majoring in business, communications or computer science at an accredited 2 or 4 year college in the counties noted above and have a GPA of at least 2.5. Financial need is considered and a photocopy of the FAFSA form is required. An essay and letters of recommendation are also required. Applicants will be notified after May 1st.

Criteria & Procedures

Graduated from a High School in the Seattle School District. Anticipates enrollment for Fall 1998 classes as a full-time student in a college or university within the state of Washington. Has completed his or her freshman year prior to Fall 1998 classes(45 credit hours or equivalent). Has and maintains an accumulative GPA of 2.50 or above(or equivalent). Selection will be based on applicant's stated financial need and an essay stating the applicants views on "Why one individual can make a difference in the lives of many." Decision will be based 75% on financial need and 25% on the 250 word essay. One alternate will be chosen. In the event that the award recipient loses status as a full-time student or fails to maintain the minimum GPA, the alternate will receive the remainder of the award for that academic year. Each applicant shall submit an application packet consisting of the following components:

  • A completed application.
  • A completed Statement of Financial Need.
  • A copy of your most recent transcript.
  • A copy of your most recent Financial Aid Award Letter (if applicable).
  • A 250 word or less essay explaining your views on "Why one individual can make a difference in the lives of many". Essay should be submitted on (a) double spaced type written page(s).

The purpose of the JOHN C. BIGELOW SCHOLARSHIP is to honor and to give financial support to a deserving senior currently enrolled at Bothell, Inglemoor or Woodinville public high schools.
(Scholarship Award for tuition only paid directly to the college or university)
The criteria for application are:

  • to be a current high school senior at Bothell, Inglemoor or Woodinville public high schools. The student must enroll full-time in a 2-4 year community college or public university.
  • to have earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA during high school. (Renewable Scholarships must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA during all quarters or semesters at the community college or university where they are enrolled.)
  • to demonstrate financial need and ability to pay additional expenses not covered by this scholarship, as substantiated by the enrolling institution.

To be eligible, you must be a graduate of a Washington state high school and currently enrolled in a Washington state four-year public university. (Or about to graduate and enroll.) You must have demonstrated potential in the field of communications and have need of financial assistance to complete your coursework.

To apply, you will need to submit a completed application form, two letters of reference, a school transcript, and three samples of your work. (See attached application form.)
