REVIEW OF THE 2006 RALLY The 2006 event was based at Lake Crescent Resort on Washington's
Olympic Peninsula. The Rally stages took participants from the Olympic Rain
Forest to the mountain foothills and from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to
the Dungeness Valley.Using both Monte Carlo and time-speed-distance (TSD) rallies, the weekend of driving was a true sporting event. Vintage rally rules were observed. Over 350 miles were covered, however each day of rallying included regular breaks for participant comfort and sight-seeing. A drive-through visit with a Hamilton Elementary School in Port Angeles and a stop at the automobile collection of Brown Maloney were just two of the highlights of the weekend. On Thursday afternoon, we were treated to a reception, at the home and automotive collection of Brown Maloney. Brown's combination of automobiles and motorcycles and his walking tour of the collection were truly appreciated. Friday's route took the rally into the Dungeness Valley where we were treated to lunch at a private club with a view of the famous Dungeness Spit. The rally visited the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's Center during an afternoon rest stop and returned to the lake Crescent Resort for our evening banquet. Saturday found the rally heading toward the Strait of Juan de Fuca and enjoying the twisting curves of Washington State Hwy. 113. A visit to the Joyce General Store, built in 1915, provided a look at a historic community store that still serves it's original purpose. Ken Olsen provided participants with his personal automotive history following our German themed banquet, back at the Resort.
All Rally proceeds benefit the nonprofit College Planning Network, raising
over $15,000 in 2005 to assist individuals seeking higher education opportunities.
It was an unforgettable weekend for those who joined us at the Willow's
Lodge. Through the support of our sponsors and participants, since 1997, over $140,000 has been raised to help deserving students plan for college through services from College Planning Network. Thank you. |
