The 2008 Rally

The 2008 Annie & Steve Norman Classic Motorcar Rally is a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) rally with several Monte Carlo sections.  A TSD rally requires that you travel the correct route at the correct speeds, and pass the “checkpoints” precisely on time.   For the Monte Carlo sections you determine the best route to arrive at the destination on time.

You are scored on how closely to the correct time you arrive.  You do not need any special equipment -- only a pencil, paper, and calculator.

As in years past, the rally will again visit a local elementary school for a brief viewing of the cars - a very popular event with the students and teachers.

The rally will also take a break to visit one of the many private classic car collections here in the Northwest.

The best advice on how to do well on a rally is “to stay on course” and to “have fun”.

You will be provided with detailed route instructions.  However, to participate in the Classic Motorcar Rally you will need to know the rules for understanding the route instructions.  You can find the rally rules here.

The 2008 rally schedule can be found here.

The rally teams will have a special treat this year with a rest break on Saturday at a very unique and very private local collection.  The owner, Ted Buckland, has opened his home/garage to the rally.  He has owner many of the cars for over 40-50 years.

The photos show just a few of the amazing cars in his collection, including a Bugatti Type 37, Jaguar XJ13 replica, and Frazier-Nash.   Other marques in the collection include Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Abarth, Lotus and much more!
